Warsaw Yiddish Daily Approves Macdonald’s Statement

The Warsaw Yiddish daily, “Haint,” comments favorably upon Prime Minister MacDonald’s statement to the effect that Great Britain will stand by the Balfour Declaration and the Palestine Mandate. It is the duty of the British government now to reject the recommendation of the majority of the Shaw commission that Jewish immigration to the land purchased in Palestine be limited, believes the “Haint,” which feels that MacDonald’s statement has somewhat ameliorated the discouragement created in Jewish circles by the report of the Shaw commission.

“Nasz Przeglad” in an editorial shows that the Shaw commission bases its conclusions upon the White Paper of 1922. It declares that not only the Mandates Commission of the League of Nations has accepted this interpretation, but also the Zionist Executive, which has thus itself made it impossible to bring the problem of the interpretation of the Balfour Declaration before the forum of the League of Nations. This paper also thinks that the final decision as to the interpretation of the Balfour Declaration may depend on the result of Anglo-Egyptian negotiations over the protection of the Suez Canal.
