One thousand young men and women members of Young Israel, the Orthodox Jewish youth organization, attended an enthusiastic grand rally held Sunday afternoon in the auditorium of the Yeshiva College, under the chairmanship of Edward S. Silver, former United States Assistant District Attorney, who is president of the organization.
The grand rally was held in preparation for the city-wide campaign which has for its purpose the securing of 10,000 members making annual contributions towards the maintenance fund of the Yeshiva and its College for Liberal Arts and Sciences, the first and only college under Jewish auspices in the United States. The campaign is being conducted by a volunteer army composed of 100 teams, all of whose workers are members of Young Israel.
Twenty percent of the quota has already been secured, according to reports submitted at the rally by the chairmen of the nine sections into which the greater city has been divided. A contribution of $1,000 towards the campaign has been announced by Louis Gold, prominent realtor, who is chairman of the board of directors of the Yeshiva College.
The campaign is to open officially on April 15 and is to last until May 4. A house to house canvass of the Jewish sections of the metropolitan population will be made by the Young Israel teams, soliciting $10, $15 and $25 annual contributions.
