Children of the Bene Israel Religious School, Rockdale Avenue Temple, this week honored the memory of David I. Johnson, pioneer Cincinnatian and father of the first Jewish child born here, with tree planting exercises on the temple grounds.

Johnson was one of the founders of the congregation and at times served as its cantor. He came to Cincinnati from England when quite young and became an intimate of President William Henry Harrison. He was the grandfather of Simeon Johnson, former vice-mayor and chairman of the Hamilton County Democratic Executive Committee.
