Alleged racial prejudice of residents of Delray Beach, Florida, and damage wrought there by the hurricane of 1926 are directly responsible for shifting a proposed $500,000 home for aged Jews from that municipality to Essex County in this state. Vice-Chancellor Backes several days ago signed an order directing the executors of the estate of the late Charles Bierman, wealthy Newark operator, to abandon the Delray project which was specified in his will.
The home was planned originally for Maplewood or its vicinity by Mr. Bierman, according to testimony of his widow, but he decided early in the winter of 1926 to erect it in Delray Beach. This decision was made, she testified, while they were on a vacation trip and Mr. Bierman bought land for the home. He died June 10, 1926.
