Several Arabs have been arrested in Haifa on suspicion of being implicated in the murder of Sergeant William Singleton, one of the oldest members of the British section of the Palestine police force, who was shot and killed yesterday by an unknown stranger who fired point blank at Sergeant Singleton while the latter was walking with a girl on the shore of Acre Bay.

While Sergeant Singleton’s funeral was held today, Rachel Berenson, his companion when he was killed, testified as to the circumstances of the crime. She described how the stranger dogged the couple’s footsteps until Singleton asked him “what do you want?” “I’ll show you what I want” the assailant shouted in Arabic, drawing a revolver and firing point blank. Singleton falling, exclaimed “it’s all up.” The girl immediately reported the murder to the police. Her cross-examination today lasted four hours and her friends were questioned, too.
