With H. C. Luke chief secretary of the Palestine government and acting-High Commissioner during the riots giving supplementary information the Mandates Commission today took up the 1929 report of the Palestine government. On the basis of its conclusions from this report and its own examination into the immediate and remote causes of the riots the Commission will formulate observations for submission to the Council of the League of Nations.
Mr. Luke answered many questions on the Palestine government’s annual report, particularly on matters of the system of land tenure, administration, justice, economic equality, the harbor works at Haifa, the Dead Sea concession, public health, finance and drug traffic.
With the Commission now preparing its observations Mr. Luke is expected to leave Geneva tomorrow night.
The Mandates Commission has received an elaborate memorandum from the Jewish National Council in Jerusalem. It is learned that while the session on Palestine will end tomorrow the Commission’s observations will not be finally formulated for a fortnight when the ordinary session of the Commission closes.
