Hadassah Raises $100,000 for Allied Jewish Campaign

The headquarters of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, announced yesterday the receipt of $100,000 for the Hadassah Medical Organization in Palestine. This amount is credited to the Allied Jewish Campaign, in which Hadassah is participating, and represents contributions by Hadassah chapters for six weeks up to June 18.

Included in the total sum contributed through Hadassah was $50,000 from the Chicago chapter. Credited to the New York Allied Jewish Campaign were $15,000 from the Brooklyn chapter; $4,500 from Mt. Vernon, and $1,000 from Kew-Forest Contributions of $1,000 or more from other parts of the country were: Boston, Mass., $5,000; St. Louis, Mo., $2,000; Baltimore, Md., $1,500; Akron, O., $1,350, and $1,000 each from Portland, Me.; Newark, N. J.; Atlanta, Ga. and Chelsea, Mass.

PROMINENT CATHOLIC ENDORSES CAMPAIGN

The following is the letter that accompanied a $5,000 check to the New York Allied Jewish Campaign, from George MacDonald, prominent Catholic layman and Papal Marquis:

“I am deeply impressed with the terrible conditions in Eastern Europe which still continue as a result of the war. They present a picture of horror which challenges the sympathy of everyone. I am also happy to see that the relief work is along the lines of reconstruction and of making people again self-supporting instead of merely alms-giving.

“I recall frequent instances of generosity of Jewish givers to Catholic philanthropies, and I in turn would like to emphasize the thought that in an undertaking such as this all creeds and denominations should stand together. Accordingly I am sending you herewith my check for Five Thousand Dollars as a contribution to the New York Allied Jewish Campaign.”
