A certificate from the Jewish National Fund with the name of Edward Best, who was killed last August in Jerusalem, defending the Jews from Arab attacks, was presented to his father today by Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency. Best, who was a government official, was killed while he and two Oxford students were trying to fight off the Arab onslaught.

In presenting the Golden Book certificate to Best’s father, Dr. Weizman recalled the tragedy of last Summer. Saying that he did not desire to deal with the disturbances which “were still a matter of controversy,” Dr. Weizmann declared “whatever may be the verdict of history about these disturbances and the role which the various factors played in them, the verdict on Best’s gallant action will be unanimous. The Jews remember him with the other young Englishmen who came to the rescue in those critical days.”

Best’s father broke down and wept as Dr. Weizmann spoke. Mr. Best also received a letter from Lord Melchett, president of the English Zionist Federation, recognizing Best’s heroic action.
