Rabbi Abraham Bengis, who during the past year has been spiritual leader of a Conservative congregation in Omaha, has been chosen rabbi of Temple Beth-El of this city. He will assume his duties here next month.
Dr. Bengis, who was born in Vilna, Poland, is the son of an orthodox rabbi. He came to America at the age of 12 and was educated at the City College of New York and the Jewish Theological Seminary. For six years he was rabbi in Fort Worth, Texas, and for two years he was the spiritual leader of a San Antonio congregation. He is a past president of the Texas Zionist Association and was editor of the Fort Worth “Jewish Monitor.”
