A charge that Pinchas Rutenberg, president of the Jewish National Council, has negotiated with Mayor Nashashibi of Jerusalem, is made today by the Hebrew daily, “Doar Hayom,” which adds that at the last meeting of the Council the Revisionist members were unable to make either a confirmation or denial of this matter.
It is understood, however, that in a recent conversation between Mr. Rutenberg and Mayor Nashashibi, the latter expressed his readiness to pursue a less hostile policy if the Jews would not oppose his mayorality. While the Mayor gave no definite promises it is believed that he is somewhat disturbed by the movement against him.
The Revisionists claim that the Jewish council of Jerusalem did not authize the movement for Jewish autonomy in Jerusalem and raised an objection to the Hatoshov society formed for that purpose because it was hopeful of some arrangement with Mayor Nasashibi.
