Says Meeting of Davila and Jewish Congress Harmonious

The impression conveyed in the report of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s interview with Carol Davila, Roumanian minister to the United States, that M. Davila’s conference with a delegation of the American Jewish Congress last Wednesday did not pass off smoothly and that Dr. Stephen S. Wise and a number of other members of the delegation left the conference before the official statement was issued, is not correct, according to a telegram received from Bernard G. Richards, executive director of the Congress.

Mr. Richard’s telegram points out that “the discussion was frank and friendly throughout and marked by mutual respect for each others’ opinions. When our delegation left we felt highly gratified by the earnest assurances and offer of service to improve conditions extended by the Minister.”

The official reply by M. Davila was given orally to the delegation with all members present. Before the press statement was issued Dr. Wise and the delegation left. It was this that gave rise to the impression that some members of the delegation had left before the official reply was given.

In connection with the same matter the editor of the Jewish Daily Bulletin received from the acting consul-general of Roumania on behalf of M. Davila a letter pointing out that there was nothing at the conference that could be interpreted as “not running smoothly.”
