Schwartz to Move Yiddish Art Theatre to Philadelphia

Download PDF for this date

Maurice Schwartz, noted Jewish actor and founder and director of the Yiddish Art Theatre in New York, will move his troupe to Philadelphia next season, according to an announcement made here by Reuben Guskin, manager of the Hebrew Actors’ Union. The new home of the Yiddish Art Theatre will be in the Gibson Theatre.

Just before his departure from the Argentine, where he has given a series of star performances, Mr. Schwartz, in an interview with the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, declared that he would not return to the United States unless he was assured of support for his company. He plans to take most of the actors who have appeared with him in New York to Philadelphia.

The Gibson Theatre, which will house the Yiddish Art Theatre’s troupe, will be under the management of Morris Burns and the direction of Jacob Cohen.
