The vigorous dispute over Kashruth now waging among the orthodox element of this city has reached the stage of the “Din-Torah.” Rabbi Leisor Shotland, leader of the forces which is seeking to oust Rabbi William Wittenstein as supervisor of the Vaad Hakashruth, today announced his willingness to appear before a “Din-Torah,” thus acknowledging the demand of the Wittenstein forces.
Representatives of the Vaad Hakashruth last week moved to have Rabbi Rosen, of Passaic, acting as an impartial party, summon both sides to a “Din-Torah.” Rabbi Rosen was one of the “Rabonim” who recently helped settle a similar controversy in St. Louis. Both sides have pledged themselves to abide by the decision of the “Din-Torah.”
In the meantime it is announced that Rabbi Wittenstein’s forces have called a massmeeting at the local Y.M.-Y.W. H. A. Building, next Wednesday night, to explain their side of the controversy to the public.
