District Commissioner Campbell has been obliged to intervene between the Moslem and Christian Arabs of Jaffa in order to avoid conflict between them such as has arisen between the Christian and Moslem Arabs of Haifa. The Jaffa dispute has also grown out of the shooting of an editor, this time a Moslem, Abdullah Kalkilleh, editor of the Seraat El Moustakem, who was shot by a Christian Arab early this week.
Moslems throughout the country are expressing their sympathy for Kalkilleh who is reported in a serious condition. The Arab paper Falastin says that neither the assailant nor his motives are known, but hints that the shooting was in retaliation for the murder of Jamal Bakhri, the Christian-Arab editor of Haifa.
