The Jews of Santo Domingo have sent an appeal to the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America (HIAS), for immediate help, having lost everything as a result of the recent hurricane.

In a letter to the Society signed by M. Goldowski, Mendel Freedman, Isaac Wengar and Wolf Sheftel, representing forty Jewish families living in Santo Domingo, it is stated that the Jews are absolutely penniless and are suffering privation. “We have lost everything,” the writers say. “We ask you, the Society which aids Jews everywhere, not to forget us. The businesses of Jews have been wiped out. We beg of you to help us immediately, otherwise we do not know what is going to happen to us.”
