Saying that his visit to Palestine had no specific purpose, Dr. Drummond Shiels, British under-secretary for the Colonies, told the Egyptian Gazette that he desires to acquire a direct knowledge of local conditions and to come into personal contact officially with the chief leaders and the government. His visit, he said, is in accordance with the general policy of the British government to establish closer connections between the Colonial Office and the governments under its supervision. For the same reason, Dr. Shiels, pointed out, he is also going to Cyprus.
