Massachusetts Jewry awoke today to find that election day had brought, in the person of David Goldstein (D) of Worcester, its first Jewish congressman since 1887. Mr. Goldstein, a successful attorney and prominently identified with his city’s civic and Jewish life, was elected in one of the closest electoral battles in the country. He is the only new Jewish congressman.
In addition to Mr. Goldstein the following Massachusetts Jews won the offices they were seeking in yesterday’s elections: Mrs. Esther Andrews of Brookline reelected to the governor’s council; Abraham Casson (R) of Roxbury, Joseph Grossman (R) of Quincy, Julius Sobel (D), Dr. Bernard Finkelstein (D), both of Dorchester and Marcus Levine (D) of Dorchester to the state assembly; Max Ulin (D) of Dorchester to the state senate.
