Belasco, Noted Playwright, Stricken with Pneumonia at 76

David Belasco, veteran playwright and producer, is seriously ill from lobar pneumonia it was reported today by his personal physician. He was brought to New York in a Pullman compartment from Baltimore where he was working hard prior to the opening of his new play, “Tonight or Never.”

His condition is critical and little hope for his recovery is offered. His daughter, who is the wife of Morris Gest, was permitted to see him for a few minutes. Mr. Belasco, who is 76 years of age, was born in San Francisco, but has made his home in New York.
