The Vaad Leumi today again postponed the elections of the Asefat Hanivcharim, the Jewish elected assembly, from December 15 to January 15 because of uncompleted negotiations between the Sephardic community and the farmers over separate ballots. The Asefat Hanivcharim is the body which elects the Vaad Leumi which in turn is entitled to one representative on the political committee of the World Zionist Organization.
Meanwhile the Polish-Jewish Federation has decided not to nominate an independent ticket. M. M. Ussishkin, head of the Jewish National Fund, will lead the General Zionists’ ticket.
An abstract of the reply the British government submitted to the Jewish Agency regarding its protests against the new Palestine policy was debated at the Vaad Leumi meeting with Pinchas Rutenberg presiding. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency understands that the general sentiment of the Council is to reject the British reply as a basis for an understanding. At the same time the Council insists that Rutenberg go to London to aid in the Jewish Agency’s negotiations with the British government.
Last week the Vaad Leumi adopted a resolution urging Rutenberg to go to London but he informed the Zionist Executive in London that he was not coming because the negotiations had been initiated without his approval.
