Comzet to Settle 6,000 Jews on Land at Bira Bidjan, Crimea

Plans for the 1931 campaign to settle city Jews on land in Crimea and in Bira-Bidjan were formulated a# today’s session of the Comzet, the government department to settle Jews on land, folliwing the closing of the conference of the Ozet, a society occupied with similar settlement work.

The Comzet decided to transport 4,500 Jews to Crimea and 1,419 to Bira-Bidjan during the year. It also decided to rush the campaign in order to enable the newcomers’ participation in the spring sowing.

The army of newcomers to the land will be accompanied by a special brigade of expert workers as instructors in farming. The Comzet also voted that the sowing area in 1931 be increased to 42,500 hectares in Crimea and to 4,000 hectares in Bira-Bidjan, amounting to an increase over last year of 7,000 hectares in Crimea and 1,350 in Bira-Bidjan. It was also announced today that a large lumber plant was opened in Bira-Bidjan where the newcomers will find immediate employment.
