Among 92 community chests in all parts of the country, the Jewish community chest of New York City is the only one which is lagging behind in raising it quota, Samuel D. Leidesdorf, chairman of the Business Men’s Council of the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, pointed out yesterday in a last-minute appeal to campaign workers.

Federation launched a drive October 20th to raise $2,221,000 needed to pay off the bank indebtedness incurred in providing for the 1930 requirements of the ninety-one philanthropic institutions which it maintains. To date the campaign is still short some $350,000, with only nine days remaining within which to obtain the money.

Mr. Leidesdorf pointed out that the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, with a 1930 budget of $5,499,000 for its ninety-one institutions, is the largest community chest in the country if not in the world. In all the fourteen years of its history, he said, never once has the community failed to respond to its appeal and contribute the quota required.
