Professor Eugene Goldstein, noted physicist and astronomer, discoverer of canal rays and the Helium Spectnim died here at the age of 80.

When the International Congress of Science was opened at Koenigsberg on September 5th, coinciding with the birthday of Professor Goldstein, the Congress started its initial session with a tribute to him. Professor Goldstein’s work in connection with the atomic theory brought him the gold medal of the London Royal Astronomical Society. During the pre-war monarchical regime in Germany, Professor Goldstein declined proposals of a university professorship that were conditional upon his becoming baptized.
