Patriotic German Jews must support any party which stands for German interests, even if it is antisemitic, says the “National-deutsche Jude”, the organ of the so-called National German-Jewish Party, headed by Dr. Max Naumann, which in the Jewish communal elections of last month issued posters calling on the electors to “vote German”, that is, not for the East European Jews, with the result that Hitlerists ironically painted the antisemitic symbol, the swastika, on their appeals.
The paper comes to this conclusion in the course of a reply to its own question whether a Jew who agrees with the aims of the National Socialists (Hitlerists) in regard to the future policy of Germany, may become a member of the Party.
Dr. Max Naumann and his group hold the view that the native German Jews are of Germanic origin adhering to the Jewish faith, and claim that they are descended from one of the Germanic tribes. A few years ago the late Dr. Paul Nathan, refused to allow Dr. Naumann to speak at a big Jewish demonstration in Berlin, declaring that he did so because Dr. Naumann denied the patriotism of the greater part of the Jews, Dr. Haumann’s party is bitterly antagonistic to the Zionists, calling them an unpatriotic element in German Jewry, and to the East European Jewish inhabitants of the country, whom they accuse of being an alien and disintegrating element.
