Lithuania is suffering comparatively less from the world-wide depression than other countries, it became known today when official information regarding the country’s financial status was made public.
Official figures show that emigration from Lithuania in the last three months has fallen off markedly as campared with the same period a year ago. In the last three months only 478 persons emigrated as against 3,404 in the same months last year. On the other hand the sums remitted by Lithuanians in America to their relatives here has decreased by fourteen percent in the last three months as compared with the same period last year.
In explanation it is pointed out that Lithuania is better off because it depends less on foreign loans than other nations, being primarily an agricultural land, the land providing a livelihood for the bulk of its citizens.
