The “Gazeta Warszawska”, the chief organ of the National Democratic Party, which was confiscated to-day, for the third time, this week, for publishing an article glorifying the activities of the National Democratic students at the University, alleged in the course of a recent article that the Government has taken the Jews under its protection, because it is dependent on the Jews.
The “Gazeta Polska”, the chief organ of the Government Party, replies to this article to-day, declaring that the Government is protecting the Jews against pogromist agitation, not because it wants the votes of the Club of Jewish Deputies, but because the interests of the State demand that no section of the population should feel itself unsafe in its own country. We want the Polish Jews to feel not only that they are safe in their country, it goes on, but also we want their welfare. We want to have loyal Jewish citizens, and we are happy when we see the Jewish masses becoming more closely identified with the Polish State.
