Troops arrived in Vilna late last night, the “Ilustrowany Kurier” reports, and are being held in readiness, in case there is any attempt to renew the anti-Jewish excesses.

The entire police force from the whole of the Vilna Province has been drafted into the City of Vilna. Strong police guards are on duty everywhere, and police cars are patrolling the streets.

The authorities declare that they are determined not to allow any fresh disturbances, and that they will not hesitate to use force against the rioters.

To-day passed quietly, but tension prevails everywhere. Many Jewish shops were closed, and very few Jews were out in the streets, fearing to expose themselves to attack.

Apprehension has been caused by the big preparations which the National Democratic students are making for the funeral of Stanislaw Waclawski, the National Democratic student who died yesterday of the injuries which he received in the fighting at the Anatomical Institute when an attempt was made to drive the Jewish medical students out of the dissecting rooms.

The National Democratic students held a meeting today at which they adopted a resolution pledging themselves not to allow any Jewish students into the University until they have discovered who killed Waclawski.

The Vilna Jewish Community has issued an appeal to the Jewish population to keep out of the way on the day of the funeral to avoid giving the antisemitic agitators opportunities for stirring up trouble.

The District Governor has issued an order prohibiting the sale of alcohol in Vilna for three days as a precautionary measure.

The Jewish student, Aba Schimanowitz, who was seriously wounded in the fighting yesterday is in his last death agony.

It is revoaled to-day that during yesterday’s fighting at the University, Professor Januszkiewicz, the Rector of Vilna University, and three of his colleagues, Professors Ehrenkreuz, Slawiaski and Dziewulski, were attacked by National Democratic students when they tried to protect some Jewish students who had been outnumbered and were being badly manhandled. “Jewish slaves”, the students shouted at their professors, and Professors Dziewulski and Slawinski carried away with them injuries sustained at the hands of their students.

There are about 60 people under arrest in connection with the attack made yesterday on the Jewish quarter, and they will probably be placed before a court martial.

The Vilna District Governor announces to-day that he will take all measures necessary to prevent any recurrence of the antismeitic excesses, but that he will not permit the formation of any Jewish self-defence force, since the preservation of order is the concern solely of the authorities.
