The Hitlerists are conducting a feverish propaganda activity for the presidential election which takes place on Sunday, with their leader, Adolf Hitler, standing against President Hindenburg. Most of the posters on the walls in Berlin are Hitlerist, outnumbering about ten times those of the pro-Hindenburg bloc, and at night bands of Hitlerists go about the streets painting the Nazi emblem and Hitlerist slogans on any available space, on walls, houses, or pavements.
In the provincial districts, the Hitlerist activity is taking on a frenzied character, streets and houses are swamped with their leaflets, and their emblems and slogans are everywhere.
The Hitlerists will hold their firat open-air election demonstration to-morrow in the Lustgarten Square, where the pro-Hindenburg bloc held their demonstration on Sunday. The entire Berlin police force have been mobilised in order to cope with any disturbances that may occur in the streets, as a result of clashes between the Hitlerists and their opponents of the pro-Hindenburg bloc or with Communists.
The Berlin Hitlerist organ “Angriff”, which is edited by Deputy Goebbels, is exploiting a clash which took place to-day between Communists and Hitlerists at the Schlesische Bridge to conduct an anti-Jewish agitation, claiming that a Hitlerist, Hans Reineck, who was killed in the fight, was murdered by a Jew, whose name it gives as Daum.
The general opinion with regard to the result of the election is that President Hindenburg will poll a majority of the votes in the first ballot on Sunday, but there is little expectation that he will obtain an absolute majority over all the other candidates to ensure his election. In that case a second ballot will be necessary, which will take place on April 10th., in which Hindenburg and Hitler will probably stand as the only two candidates.
