Amid ceremonies witnessed by distinguished jurists and state officials, Federal Judge Phillip Forman was formally sworn into his new post here yesterday. Judge Forman, who served previously for several years as United States District Attorney, has the double distinction of being the first Jew in this state to serve as a federal judge and at 36, is the youngest man to hold such a post in the nation. He was recently appointed by President Hoover.
U. S. Circuit Court Judge Joseph Buffington administered the oath of office and Federal Judge Clark, who presided, congratulated Mrs. Tillie Forman, of this city, mother of the new jurist, who witnessed the ceremonies. Among others present were United States District Attorney George Z. Medalie of New York and Mrs. Mabel Walker Willebrandt.
