The children of Nathanyah have named their new school-house in honor of the late Oscar Straus, American Ambassador to Turkey. The founders of the colony who three years ago when they broke ground, lived in tents, named the colony after the late Nathan Straus, The laying of the new corner-stone was coupled with a vivid ceremonial of the delivery of deeds to Nathanyah’s latest settlers among whom were M. Levontin, manager of the Anglo-Palestine Bank of Tel-Aviv.
Arab Sheiks of the neighboring villages, the Governor of Tul-Karem and the registrar of lands participated in the joint ceremony and expressed surprise at the unprecedented growth of Nathanyah which in three years, with the private resources of its Palestinian-American settlers, has increased is population to 500 people, planted 3,500 dunams of orange groves, built over 85 homes, equipped with all modern conveniences.
An additional 10,000 dunams have been acquired by the Hanotaiah Colonization Agency, and a new colony. Yehudiah, with an area of 6,000 dunams, was founded between Nathanyah and Tel-Mond. Yehndiah was named in memory of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the father of modern Hebrew, in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of his death.
