B’nai Brith Reiterates All Districts Opposed to Conference, in Reply to Jewish Congress

The Order B’nai Brith, through its Secretary, Dr. I. M. Rubinow, replying to the statement of the American Jewish Congress that 50% of the foreign B’nai Brith Districts are in favor of the world Jewish conference which opens in Geneva on August 14th, reiterates its assertion that the “foreign districts are unanimously unfavorable to B’nai Brith’s participation in a world Jewish conference at the present time.”

Dr. Rubinow writes:

“May I point out that when President Cohen wrote to Mr. Deutsch: “The answers received from the foreign districts are unanimously unfavorable to B’nai Brith’s participation in a world Jewish conference at or near the present time’ this statement was in full accord with the answers received, regardless of communications you may have had from Europe.

“As far as England is concerned, President Liverman of District Grand Lodge No. 15, in reply to our inquiry concerning a cable message in the ‘Jewish Daily Bulletin’ announcing their acceptance of your invitation, wired: ‘Report absolutely incorrect. We have not accepted invitation.’

“Mr. Liverman’s letter dated July 15th, informed us that while “this district Grand Lodge decided to participate in the conference to take place this summer, we propose to take no further action pending a definite decision from you as to what action and
