Premier L. A. Taschereau of Quebec yesterday added his condemnation of the anti-Semitic campaign being conducted by the Goglu publications to that of Premier Bennett and Justice Desaulniers.
Asked to comment on the scathing denunciation of the anti-Jewish campaign of the Goglu publications by Justice Desaulniers who regretted that the law did not permit him to grant an injunction restraining these papers, Premier Taschereau declared : “As far as the judgment is concerned, I have no hesitation in stating that it is a complete indictment of the campaign waged by anti-Semitic papers against the Jews.
“The judgment is a severe and timely indictment. The Jews are here to stay and I personally condemn the campaign being directed against them by the papers in question.”
Expressing regret that Justice Desaulniers came to the conclusion that the law did not permit him to issue the injunction, Premier Taschereau stated that it is his view that the time has come for legislative action which will place papers under the supervision of the courts.
The statement of Premier Taschereau revives the hope that the bill introduced by Deputy Peter Bercovitch for the curbing of anti-Semitic publications, which was defeated at the last session of the Legislature, will be favorably received when it is reintroduced.
