First Jew Named to Yale University Faculty

Mitchell Levensohn, who received his Ph.D. in the field of classics from Yale University in 1931, has been appointed instructor of classics in Yale College, and is believed to be the first Jew to be appointed to the faculty of Yale College.

Levensohn, who was elected to Phi Beta Kappa during his Junior year at Yale, having attained the highest stand in his class, won five prizes for scholastic excellence during his freshmen year. During his Senior year he was awarded four prizes, and in the same year was the recipient of four scholarships. He held one scholarship during the entire four years of undergraduate study, two during his Junior year, and held three fellowships during the period of graduate study.
