The State Department declined to discuss the report that the British government has refused to recognize the stand of the United States with regard to a voice in the future government of Iraq.
It was explained that the positions of the British and American governments were set forth in the exchange of correspondence. The stand of the United States with regard to Iraq in restraining from insistence upon its rights is “not to be construed as an abandonment of the principle established in 1921 that the approval of the United States is essential to the validity of any determination which may be reached regarding mandated territories,” it was reiterated.
