Unless a visa to the United States is granted him within twenty-four hours, Professor Einstein will cancel his trip to America, where he is scheduled to conclude his experiments at Mount Wilson Observatory preliminary to taking up his duties as the head of the Mathematical School of the newly formed Institue for Advanced Study.

Professor Einstein delivered this ultimatum today after he had been put through what he regards as a sort of third degree by American consular officials, who questioned him regarding his Communist affiliations as alleged by the Women’s Patriot Corporation of the United States.

The Consulate acted upon instructions issued by the United States State Department in Washington after the latter had received a complaint from the Women’s Patriot Corporation calling for the refusal of a visa to Professor Einstein. On Saturday, Professor Einstein received a request from the Consulate to appear before it and when he appeared there today he was asked questions concerning communism, pacifism and anarchism.
