The Department of Labor has now issued regulations regarding re-entry permits for aliens which will make it easier for certain aliens to secure these permits, the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society points out.

The new policy has reference to aliens whose permanent legal admission into the United States cannot be verified from official records.

If the alien arrived before 1897 a reentry permit will be issued upon satisfactory proof by affidavit that such alien entered this country for permanent residence before 1897 and that he has been a resident of the United States ever since. Such applicants will not be required to file Form 659 in order to obtain a certificate of legal admission.

Applicants who have come to this country between the years 1897 and 1906 will have to file Form 659 and will receive a certificate that they have been admitted legally. If they show proof that they have to go abroad before the proceedings attending the filing of the form have been completed, they will be granted a return permit and investigation and the hearing will take place after their return.
