The Austrian League for Human Rights has submitted to Chancellor Dollfus and the Minister of Justice a memorandum in which are described the conditions prevailing in the Austrian Universities.
It is pointed out that the terrorism introduced by the National Socialist students has prevented the normal course of studies during the whole of the past year. There were no legal obstacles, the memorandum stresses, to the authorities responsible for the public safety to intervene even within the premises of the Universities. The Government has power to assert its authority wherever peace and law are broken.
The League for Human Rights demands of the Government, therefore, that they should authorize the police and gendarmes not to confine themsclves to the entrance to the University when disturbances break out within the University buildings, because every citizen, including the students, has a right to protection of life and honor.
