A motion for the introduction of a numerus clausus regulation limiting the number of Jewish lawyers admitted to practice at the bar to one to every one hundred non-Jews, was introduced today by the Nazi Fraction of the Prussian Diet.
At the same time, however, the Nazis voted against a motion calling for general restrictions owing to the general overcrowding in the law profession.
The Nazis also introduced a motion calling for the disbarment of Dr. Bernhard Weiss, former Vice-President of the Berlin Police Department, who was persistently dogged and vilified by the Nazis while in office.
The Nazis assert that the Prussian High Court which passed on the ouster of Dr. Weiss and other Social Democratic officials, when martial law was declared in Prussia last year, asserted that Dr. Weiss does not possess the moral qualifications necessary for a police official. It therefore follows that he does not possess the moral qualifications necessary for a lawyer, the Nazis claim. They call upon the Federal Commissioner to take steps to strike Dr. Weiss’s name from the law register.
