The formation of a permanent committee to act with the Department of Labor of the United States Government in upholding immigration laws and in combatting the preying on immigrants and their families was resolved upon at a meeting of representatives of more than 50 foreign language organizations and fraternal groups, on Sunday, which was attended by Secretary of Labor Doak.
Edward F. Corsi, Commissioner of Immigration at Ellis Island, was appointed to form an organization committee and submit the names of members.
It is planned to appoint a permanent spokesman in Washington to represent the Committee.
The meeting was addressed by Secretary of Labor Doak and Raymond F. Crist, head of the Bureau of Naturalization. Secretary Doak saw the Committee’s services as being of great value to the department. He assailed the “immigrant racket” and certain types of attorneys who “extort every last dime from people for services they never perform.”
