Jewish immigration into Syria is growing, and Beirut is becoming an important Jewish centre.
Most of the Jews migrating to Syria do so in the hope of afterwards being able to enter Palestine. Failing to obtain Palestine visas, they eventually decide to remain in Syria and endeavor to adjust themselves to local conditions.
There are also a number of Jews in Beirut who have been refused admission to Palestine because their visas were not in proper order, and did not meet the requirements of the Palestinian immigration officials.
This class of Jewish immigrants is seeking to prevail on the Beirut Jewish Community to undertake activities for providing aid and shelter for Jews in need from Europe, until they are in a position to enter Palestine in a legal and officially recognized way.
In view of the fact that there have recently been several cases of smuggling across the border from Syria into Palestine, the Palestine Government has reinforced the frontier patrols on the Syria-Palestine frontier, and is watching the frontier more closely.
