Eight of the fifty-five Jews arrested in the Havana Jewish Sport Club several days ago have been liberated, the remainder were sentenced to fifteen days imprisonment and fines of $50 each.
They were charged with holding meetings without the special permission of the military commandant. The eight who were discharged were set free without trial, while the rest were given no opportunity to arrange for their defense.
Detroit—The Jewish Social Service Bureau re-elected Theodore Levin president for a third term and selected Julian Krolik as vice-president. Prof. Samuel M. Levin, head of the economics department of the College of the City of Detroit, is the new treasurer, and Harold Silver is executive director.
The Social Service Bureau is planning to aid as much as possible in advancing Mo’oc Chitim funds for the relief of the needy on Passover.
