Wise Criticizes Pressure Against American Protest

Rabbi Adolph H. Fink of Spokane, Washington, presided at the convention of the Pacific Northwest Association for Adult Education held in the Temple Emanu-El Building, April 3rd and 4th. Rabbi Fink is chairman of the executive board and one of the organizers of the Association which represents the States of Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. That the American Jewish Congress may yet be compelled to declare itself in favor of an economic boycott against Germany, was the statement made by Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Honorary President, and Bernard S. Deutsch, President of the American Jewish Congress, at a newspaper luncheon at the Hotel Commodore last Friday.

Dr. Wise read a number of letters which depicted atrocities committed against Jews in Germany. Dr. Wise declared that the reassuring statements made by leading Jewish organizations in Germany were due to coercion. He criticized the German Jews in the United States for exercising pressure on the Congress to desist from its protest, explaining that many of them cannot imagine that Germany, which they had known in their youth as the country of Goethe and Schiller, should have been turned into the country of Goebbels and Goering.

Dr. S. Margoshes urged the newspapermen to report the truth about the developments in Germany. Abraham Goldberg criticized the Washington administration for its attitude of silence.
