80,000 German Jews Throng Breadlines, Soup-kitchens As Helpless Numbers Grow

Jewish breadlines in Germany are doubling over night, the number of the helpless leaping from thirty to eighty thousand in less than a week, according to authoritative reports received here today. Estimated last week at thirty thousand, the crowd of German-Jews absolutely dependent on the soup-kitchens for subsistence is given today as between sixty and eighty thousand.

Most of these are ruined middle-class folk, shop-keepers, white-collar workers, and professional people who have been forced to give up their means of livelihood by the economic anti-Semitic measures instituted by the Nazi administration. The few who still possess some means of subsistence are bravely sharing their depleted fortunes with those who have nothing whatever left, but the number of those who are able to give assistance is rapidly diminish-
