A degree of leniency in the capital required of prospective immigrants was indicated today by the High Commissioner, raising the hope that a large number of German-Jews might be admitted to Palestine. The High Commissioner gave instructions to consider favorably applications for visas by individuals of the professional class and of the artisan class who were in the possession of two hundred and fifty pounds or more.
Formerly, the possession of five hundred pounds was required for those in the professional class, while skilled artisans had to have two hundred and fifty pounds.
The suggestion of the Jewish Agency that a new immigrant category for applicants with one hundred fifty pounds of capital was declined.
