Asriel Carlebach, editor of the “Israelitisches Familienblatt,” was shot and seriously wounded last night.
His attackers have not yet been apprehended but Communists are suspected of the deed as revenge for a series of articles describing Mr. Carlebach’s impressions of a recent visit to Soviet Russia. He has been threatened by the Communists and two Communists had been stationed at his house to watch his movements, it is known. Other members of the staff of the “Familienblatt” were also threatened.
Mr. Carlebach sustained a broken spine, head injuries and internal injuries of an undetermined nature. He was removed to the hospital in an unconscious condition and grave fears are entertained for him.
