A vicious anti-Jewish campaign has been launched by a number of local French-Canadian publications to forestall the possibility of having Canadian emigration restrictions lifted somewhat for the refugees of Hitlerist Germany.

Even newspapers which hitherto have been friendly towards the Jews have been caught in this vicious propaganda. Among them is to be found the influential Liberal organ, Le Canada, which, although it has often championed the Jewish cause, comes out openly against the admission of German-Jews into the country. “The entry of Semites into this country has greatly increased the number of parasites and has contributed nothing to enrich our culture and civilization”, states this heretofore friendly publication.

The same newspaper plays up a sensational news item which appeared previously in the outspoken anti-Semitic Le Devoir, to the effect that a committee had been formed in Paris with the purpose of raising $50,000 for the transportation of thousands of German-Jews to Canada. This news item, utterly without any foundation, was released by an anti-Jewish agency in Brussels and was featured by Le Devoir in scare-head type. Another publication, Le Patriote, has undertaken to continue the scurrilous campaign of the notorious now defunct anti-Semitic Goglu publications.
