dealers to hang out signs “Deutscher Waren”.

The leading editorial of the paper announces in large blackface type, “On to the War!” The close of a long anti-Jewish editorial goes as follows: “Fight each Jewish boycotter! Fight every store, every business house, every commercial firm that takes part in the anti-German boycott.

“The names of firms and merchants who refuse to handle German goods are known. and will be more widely known. Every German, every German-American, and every racially pure American must learn these names. And when each has learned these names, he will know what he is to do.

“German-Americans! The Jews have flung the mailed fist at us—It should mean fight. Let us all make an earnest resolution and then carry it through: That we shall only support Christian business. We are not alone in this fight. A large part of the American people, who have also sensed the Jewish peril to this country, stand by our side. Out with the lukewarm and indifferent! “On to the Fight!”

The following advertisement is being carried in both the Deutsche Post and the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung:

NOTICE TO THE GERMAN-AMERICANS

Certain elements have begun efforts to instigate a boycott movement against imported German goods. All Germans in America are warned to right this wrong; to stand together against each boycott of German merchandise; and not to injure the good commercial relations between America and Germany.

A boycott of German goods would by its own nature bring about a dimunition of American exports to Germany. This is sought in opposition to the first principles of the established American and German commercial policy, which has tended to extend toward a complete trade relationship to the benefit of both peoples.

We hope that all American friends of Germany and all German-Americans will not take part in this boycott, but rather remain true to Germany’s produce.

Therefore Buy and Demand German Goods.
