The Jewish world economic conference, convened at the behest of the British Council of Trades and Industries, in which Lord Melchett is an outstanding figure, will open definitely on July 15, according to an announcement made here today. The conference, originally scheduled to open on June 25, was postponed at the request of American boycott organizations in order to permit the attendance at the conference of Samuel Untermyer, noted attorney, who will represent the American League for the Defense of Jewish Rights.

Preparatory work for the sessions will commence on June 25 with delegates from other countries participating in the outlining of the conference program.

The Jewish Economic Forum, organ of the British Council, in its current issue, says “The conference would have been worth while even for its own sake as the first Jewish economic conference in history, but under the present circumstances, the conference will have the most important task of coordination and direction of the world boycott of German goods. A centrally organized boycott of all trades for all countries will be a more powerful weapon than a boycott in each country.

“The immediate task of the conference”, the publication states, “will be to establish the necessary machinery for coordination and direction with due regard to the special conditions prevailing in each country. In addition, the Jewish delegates from all over the world will lay the foundation for a new Jewish policy based on economic considerations which affect, not only the future existence of Jewry as a whole, but also every individual Jew.

“The conference will consist entirely of Jewish businessmen and will not only be decisive in shaping Jewish destinies, but will also serve the World Economic Conference in its efforts to solve the world economic problems.”
