Fear that Jewish doctors from Germany, if permitted to enter Spain, will constitute a serious competition to Spanish doctors, is expressed here today in some circles of the Medical College of Madrid, in connection with the report that certain facilities may be afforded to Jewish doctors from Germany to practice in Spain.
A number of anti-Semitic articles have appeared in the press, particularly in some of the Conservative papers, pointing out the danger with which Spanish doctors may soon be confronted. The former Minister of Public Instruction, Senor Fernando di Los Rios, is singled out for attack under the accusation of bringing the Jews back to Spain. In this connection, a communique has been issued by the Ministry of Public Instruction, pointing out that no permits have been granted to foreign doctors to practice in Spain, and that no foreign diplomas or degrees are recognized. Neither during nor since the period of office of Senor di Los Rios have such permits been issued, the Ministry declares.
