About one-third of the entire public works budget of the Palestine Government will be applied to projects on which Jewish labor will be employed, the Palestine Government has informed the Jewish Agency Executive here. Arrangements here being made, the Executive was informed after protracted negotiations with the Government, for putting this allocation into effect. The executive, however, in a reply to the Government, insists on a larger share more in proportion to the Jewish contribution to Government revenues and in accordance with the terms of the MacDonald letter. The reply stresses that, even in 1930, the Jewish share of the Palestine public revenues was 43 per cent.
Of the 2,000,000 pound loan announced in the House of Commons last week, only 250,000 pounds will be used to settle “displaced” Arabs on the land, it was stated.
An official communique published this morning, confirmed this latter fact. “It is notified for the general information,” it reads, “that of the proposed loan of two million pounds, which issue was foreshadowed by the Colonial Secretary Friday, 250,000 pounds will be allocated for the settlement of landless Arabs. Other important allocations will be devoted to the provision of credits to assist all types of agriculture and for the provision of funds for important public works urgently needed for the general benefit of the country, including water supply and drainage.
