David Dubinsky, president of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, was in Washington Tuesday for renewed conferences on the code governing the ladies’ garment industry. The impending strike of the 30,000 workers in that industry has been postponed at the request of Miss Frances Perkins, Secretary of Labor. Disagreements between the employers and workers caused the negotiations to be broken off on Sunday. Mr. Dubinsky consented to the postponement of the strike until the Administration has had an opportunity to study the situation.
The cause of the original disruption of the negotiations for a code for the industry was a difference between employers and workers over wage scales and over the week-work versus the piece-work system of production.
